The Los Angeles Community College District has one of America’s largest green building education projects underway, with a policy calling for all new buildings that are funded with at least 50 percent bond money must be built to LEED standards. As a result, among the green strategies on their nine campuses are energy-efficient climate control systems, wind power, daylighting, and other technologies like a special coating that reacts to sunlight by forming cleansing agents for the building. East Los Angeles College has a 1.2 MW solar farm with solar panels installed above carports helping save $400,000 in energy costs.
